JEAN CHARDIN

Making a name through travel

Jean Chardin is the first French brand of gastronomic teas. The brand cultivates both the art of the recipe and the French way of life. Born from the dream of an entrepreneur, it draws upon the rich history of Jean Chardin, known as “Chevalier Chardin,” a traveler and writer best known for his accounts of his stays in Persia and the East in the late 17th century. He was the first to trade and write about the art of tea, and took advantage of his travels to write “Voyages of Monsieur le Chevalier Chardin in Persia and Other Oriental Places,” preserved at the National Library.

A fabulous story of a man and an incredible inspiration for the agency to create the Jean Chardin brand, with each recipe name inspired by the writings and places visited by the illustrious traveler. A fantastic foundation to create an «enhanced experience» through a magnificent story and a rich Grand Siècle universe, which the agency used to develop the brand identity and packaging.

A revisited historical coat of arms, retaining its inverted chevron and wood grouse. And the rest follows suit, drawing inspiration from history, with a few visits to the Louvre. The old engravings of characters from Jean Chardin’s book are recreated in an engraved style, each associated with one of the teas in the range. The designs of the metal or crystal boxes for both tea bags and bulk tea are inspired by a 17th-century antique box.

Megusta brings Jean Chardin back to life, pays homage to French heritage, and cultivates the French way of life.
